OUR STORY

The Manna Food Pantry all started in 2007 with a garden. Our volunteers planted a garden in hopes of giving the vegetables away in late summer. Well, that happened and we set up a pop-up tent in Kingbrook Estates in Almont Michigan every Saturday to give produce away for free. The word got out and we had farmers and people within the community donate items. We were able to give fresh vegetables to anyone who came; and we were able to put many smiles on people’s faces, which brought us great joy!

2008-2009

One day out of nowhere we received a call from a Men’s Rehab facility way down in Ray Township. (unfortunately, this facility no longer exists) We were asked to come and pick up food- “we have an abundance”. We were not prepared for the overwhelming overflow of food we received; let’s just say, an abundance! One week led to every week, and very soon we had freezers full of meat. We had non-perishable goods and a full-blown food pantry without an existing building or storage. Kinbrook Estates was very gracious and we set up freezers and storage and used their party room to hand out food each week. It was amazing!

2010- Present

The Almont Vineyard Church was able to secure property on Van Dyke Road (3835). They quickly opened up their doors and donated space to the Manna Food Pantry. The Food Pantry, volunteers, and support have grown into an amazing outreach. We are able (weekly every Thursday) to hand out food to hundreds of people and families that come each week. We charge no one for food and give out graciously what we have been given.

WHAT WE DO

Where do we get food?

We purchase food from the Eastern Michigan Food Bank. We also receive donated food from farmers (fresh produce/ seasonal). We have people, families, and businesses that donate regularly to meet our needs.

Who are we and who do we serve?

Manna Food Pantry is a non-profit food pantry that provides food to anyone in need. We serve people mainly from Lapeer County; however, people come from surrounding counties, towns, and cities to receive food.

How do we organize and prepare food for giveaway?

We have a team of volunteers who donate their time each week to organize and prepare for our food giveaways. We do our best to provide a balanced food selection for individuals and families who are served.
